AAP today said it will support the family of a man who was burnt alive allegedly by two Delhi Police constables in Neb Sarai after he tried to intervene in a scuffle between his auto-driver son and the policemen who were extorting money from him.
The party said its candidate from Malviya Nagar constituency Somnath Bharti, who is a lawyer, will provide free legal service to the family and will also take care of their welfare.
The 52-year-old man, Uday Chand, was allegedly set ablaze by two Delhi Police constables on November 10 while protesting against an alleged extortion bid on his autodriver son.
Chand, who had sustained severe burn injuries, was rushed to Safdarjung hospital, where he died on November 14.
Chand's son alleged that the two beat constables were constantly harassing them and even asked Rs 20,000 from them as one-time bribe for letting them enter Sainik Farm.
"AAP promises to ensure justice for his family. We will take the case to a proper conclusion even if we have to fight it out till the Supreme Court level, we will do it," the party said.
Meanwhile, AAP claimed that a number of BJP activists from Kirari, in South West District have joinined the party.
