Aam Aadmi Party today criticised Punjab government for reportedly spending around Rs 32 crore to buy new vehicles for MLAs, saying when intense austerity drive is needed, the state bought "luxurious" convoy to over-burden the exchequer.
It is a known fact that the state government is in dearth of money to even pay salaries to the staff and even the newly employed are being paid very meagre amount," Convener of AAP in Punjab Sucha Singh Chhotepur said.
"Under such poor financial health, how could any government afford the "luxury" to buy fleet of "luxurious" vehicles," he said.
Knowing very well that they would be ousted from power early next year, the SAD-BJP government is not keeping any stone unturned to make the state "bankrupt" deliberately, making it difficult for the next government to run the show, Chhotepur alleged.
The government has placed orders for 14 Toyota Land Cruisers for the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister apart from about 100 Innova Cars for all MLAs, he said, asking when pensioners were still waiting for their dues where did the money for these cars came from.
