AAP urges Chouhan for CBI probe into Cong leader Sarla's death

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sought a CBI probe into the death of Congress leader Sarla Mishra, who died under mysterious circumstances 18 years ago here during Digvijay Singh-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh.
In a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, AAP state coordinator Alok Agrawal reminded that MP BJP in its manifesto in 2003 said that it will go for a CBI probe into the death of Sarla, whose father Ashwani Mishra and grandfather Shambudayal Mishra had been freedom fighters.
But after coming to power in the state since December 2003, the saffron party hasn't sought a central agency investigation into her death, the letter states.

It said that then Home Minister Charandas Mahant had announced that CBI would be asked to probe the case but successive state governments have not issued notification under section 6 of Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act 1946 for the CBI probe into Sarla's death yet.
In the letter, Agrawal reminded the Chief Minister that BJP legislators had stalled the proceedings of the MP Assembly session in 1997 over the death of Sarla.
Sarla was an educated woman who was against criminalisation of politics, it said.

It further demanded that the state government should ask CBI to probe the case to bring out the truth and punish the guilty.

The letter said that Sarla's kin are demanding a probe into her death since 1997.
Meanwhile, the indefinite sit-in protest of Anand Mishra and Anuraj Mishra, brothers of Sarla, at the busy Board Office Square here, seeking a probe by the central agency into the death of their sister entered the second day today.
The duo are alleging that Digvijay Singh's younger brother and former MP, Laxman Singh was involved in their sister's death and that then CM had hushed up the case.
Sarla was found with severe burns at her residence under mysterious circumstances here on February 19, 1997. She died later.

Madhya Pradesh police had then concluded that she committed suicide. The state BJP had then alleged that her death was a fallout of her "exploitation" by male politicians.
