The opposition AAP today sought permission from the Punjab Assembly speaker to table a private member bill in the upcoming budget session, which is aimed to unseat ministers or MLAs if they are found guilty of conflict of interest.
The Punjab Unseating of Members of Legislative Assembly found Guilty of Conflict of Interest Bill, 2018, was submitted to Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana K P Singh here, AAP Punjab, co-president Aman Arora, said.
"Under the proposed bill, any elected representative, be it the chief minister, ministers and the MLA's, shall be liable for disqualification and hence unseated, within a period of six months, if they are found guilty of the Conflict of Interest Act, which means any MLA found furthering his own private interests, financial or commercial, directly or indirectly, at the cost of interest of the state, shall be unseated," he said.
Arora, an MLA from Sunam, said had such law existed, mafias involved in liquor, transport, cable businesses would not have come into existence.
Arora said, "This Act will not entail any financial expenditure and rather it will be instrumental in preventing the loot of public exchequer by the politicians."
AAP MLA accused the Congress-led government of not taking any step in this direction despite making promises before the Assembly polls.
