The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today demanded a separate post of an independent commissioner for the education department to improve the education scenario in the state.
"The incumbent commissioner is also holding the charge of a few more departments, and it would not be possible for him to give his heart and soul to the cause of education in our state," the union said in a representation to the education minister.
It said that since the department needs constant monitoring in every sphere, "it needs a commissioner of its own who can devote himself to the cause of the development of education."
An independent education commissioner should be appointed at the earliest, so that a healthy atmosphere prevails, it added.
AAPSU president Kamta Lapung also urged the government to immediately announce cash incentive for sportspersons who brought laurels to the state.
Referring to the sports policy of the state government, Lapung said that policy does not make a sportsperson but facilitates the hidden talent to get exposure and the identified one to shine.
"It would be unwise to expect anything without hard work, consistency with perseverance in any branch of games and sports. The youth have huge potential which could benefit them and the nation if they come forward with commitment," he said.
However, Lapung urged the state government to implement the sports policy in letter and spirit to develop adequate infrastructure throughout the state, recruit sportspersons under 5 per cent job reservation quota and offer incentives as a policy to Arunachalee players who win medals at national and international levels.
