The youth sprayed chili powder at the face of Head Constable Shafiq Ahmad outside the SBI branch at Qaimoh in Kulgam district at around noon, the official said.
He said the youth tried to snatch the rifle of the cop, who put up a stiff resistance, forcing the assailants to flee from the spot.
"The cop and his weapon are both safe.A manhunt has been launched for the youth who tried to snatch the weapon of the policeman," he added.
