Action plan on Malaria eradication created

The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has set up an action plan to control the spread of malaria in the city by creating awareness among the public.
Around 5,000 cases of malaria had been reported in the Dakshina Kannada district from January to July and two deaths were reported in the period, District Health Officer H S Shivkumar said. There was an increse in mararia cases compared to the corresponding period last year, he said in a statement.
City Corporation Mayor Mahabala Marla, would be the president of the core committee formed for creating awareness among the public regarding the steps being taken to prevent the disease.
Zonal level teams would be formed including representatives of medical colleges, institutions of social work, corporate offices and builders besides officials of the MCC and health department.
The MCC was also taking measures to destroy mosquito larvae by releasing guppy fishes in the breeding sources, the statement said.
