Adalat helps people restore documents lost in floods

The Kerala IT Mission, in an adalat held at Malappuram, has restored over 1,000 documents of those who have lost them during the floods this year.

The documents include ration cards, marklists, birth and marriage certificates and property documents. They have been downloaded and kept in the digilocker accounts opened for the beneficiaries.

A total of 1,797 documents was restored during the adalat from the 2,012 applications, a press release from the Kerala IT Mission said.

"In all, 859 digilocker accounts were opened to keep the documents as part of the drive, which concluded in Malappuram earlier this week," the release said.

The digitisation was done by the certificates retrieval adalats, conducted jointly by the district administration and Kerala IT Mission in different parts of the state.

"These documents also include aadhar card, SSLC and Plus-Two marklist and certificates, driving licences, land deed documents and caste and community certificates," director of Kerala state IT Mission S Chitra said.

The IT department had asked those who had lost the documents during the floods to personally appear at the adalats and submit requests for their retrieval/restoration.

The mission was carried out with the support of digilocker team of the department of IT, government of India.

The camps were led by the IT Missions district project managers with the support of district administrations.

Over 1,200 documents were retrieved by camps held in Malappuram district followed by Wayanad 192, Kozhikode 180, Thrissur 161 and Kannur 56.

District-wise count of digilocker accounts opened is Malappuram 494, Kozhikode 129, Wayanad 120, Thrissur 79 and Kannur 37.

After last years devastating floods, as many as 30 certificate adalats were held and over 6,000 documents were restored to their owners.
