Private utility Adani Power today said it plans to set up vermicomposting units in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, where it has coal-based plants, for safe removal and environment friendly management of fly ash.
The company already has one vermicomposting -- use of earthworms to convert organic waste into fertiliser -- unit at its 4,620 mw power project in Mundra in Gujarat.
"After the success of this pilot project in Mundra, we plan to replicate the same model at our other two projects in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, as part of the conscious effort towards safe removal and environment friendly management of fly ash," Adani Power chief executive Vneet Jaain said in a statement.
The company has a coal fired project of 1,320 MW in Kawai, Rajasthan, through two units of 660 MW. It is implementing another coal-fired project of 3,300 MW in Tiroda, Maharashtra, through five units of 660 MW of which three units are fully operational. The fourth one has been synchronised.
The company, with a total generation capacity of 7,920 mw, currently recycles fly ash by using it as a source for plant nutrients in agriculture; in addition to its utilisation in the production of cement concrete, construction of roads, bricks and structural filling.
