Administrative nod for reconstruction of Chambakkara bridge

Kerala government has accorded administrative sanction for reconstruction of Chambakkara Bridge in the city into a four-lane bridge, at a cost of Rs 33.66 crore, as a preparatory work of the Kochi Metro Rail project.
The reconstructed bridge will be 310 metres long and 8.5 metres wide, a KMRL release said here.
Major stakeholders along with people representatives from the area had emphasised the need for reconstructing the bridge as well as redeveloping the access to the Chambakkara Fish Market as part of Kochi Metro project.
The had stressed that these works needed to be carried out along with the metro works in the interests of ease of construction, economy and efficiency and also because it would be impossible to do it once the construction of metro is completed in that stretch.

Based on this, KMRL had submitted a proposal to the state government along with the proposal of DMRC for an amount of Rs 33.66 crore for reconstruction of the four-lane bridge at Chambakkara along with widening of Kunnara Park-Petta road and construction of the metro.
Now, the government has approved the proposal under 'Major Infrastructure Development Project' as the preparatory work for Kochi Metro Rail project, the KMRL added.
