After over two weeks of virtual paralysis of proceedings, it was serious legislative business in the Lok Sabha despite today being a Saturday.
After the Zero Hour from 1100-1200 hrs, the House devoted itself to clear the backlog of heavy legislative agenda by clearing three Bills by 1800 hrs.
The bills ranged from raising the emoluments, allowances and privileges of Governors, to amending states' list of scheduled castes for inclusion and exclusion of certain castes in five states.
A bill for modifying the list of scheduled tribes in the states of Kerala and Chattisgarh was also taken up.
Since the Monsoon session began on August 5, proceedings were repeatedly disrupted on several issues especially the Telangana issue as TDP members continuously stormed the Well demanding justice to Seemandhra region.
Acting tough against Andhra Pradesh MPs for continuously disrupting the House, Speaker Meira Kumar yesterday suspended 12 of them for five sittings under a rule which was used for the first time.
There were also indications that the session could be extended till September 5 to clear the backlog of business.
Sharad Yadav (JD-U) raised the issue during Zero Hour saying he was happy that the session was being extended by five days.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said there has been no formal proposal in this regard and when it will be there the House will be intimated.
But Yadav insisted that Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has hinted that the House was being extended.
