Ahmadiyyas denied permission to hold seminar in Srinagar

Citing "public sentiments", authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have denied permission to Ahmadiyya sect of the Muslim community to hold a peace meeting in Srinagar.
"Ahmadiyya Jama'at through Muhammad Ibrahim Shah, Ameer Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Srinagar, had applied for holding a peace symposium at SKICC Srinagar in the last week of September. But the same was denied in view of public sentiments," an official spokesman said.
He said Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad termed the rumours spread by some people that government was considering granting permission to Ahmadiyya Jama'at for holding a peace symposium here as false.
In several Islamic countries, including Pakistan, the Ahmadiyyas are referred to as non-Muslim or heretics. Members of the sect are attacked in several countries regularly.
