The Commission has said in a release that Jhankar Saikia and his advocate father Haren Saikia were severely assaulted by some autorickshaw drivers and some others "in the presence of an ASI of police, one police havildar and one homeguard".
Through an order on July 3, the AHRC had asked for an enquiry to be conducted by the commissioner and secretary of the department of home of the state government.
The father-son due were attacked after an altercation over payment of fare amounting to just Rs 10.
The injured boy was shifted to the Dispur Hospital at Guwahati, but he succumbed to his injuries on July 1.
His father has been undergoing medical treatment for his injuries received from the attackers, official sources said.
