Under its ambitious plan to allow industries with turnover of at least Rs 100 crore to establish technical institutions of their own, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has permitted a private company to start a technical institution in the country.
The private industrial firm would set up its first institution in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, a senior AICTE official said.
"We had received four applications last year and permission was given to one (industry)," S S Mantha, Chairman AICTE told PTI today. He was speaking on the sidelines of an event here.
The Government, last year, had allowed private and public companies with a turnover of at least Rs 100 crore per year over a 3-year period to set up technical institutes to meet the increasing demand of such institutes.
They can establish new technical institution in engineering and technology, pharmacy, architecture and town planning and hotel management catering technology.
