Air India is the first airline in the country to have been awarded with such certification, a release said.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) is a global body of the airlines, representing over 240 air carriers globally.
The certificate was handed over to Air India chairman and managing director Ashwini Lohani.
Receiving the certificate, Lohani said the IATA certification is proof of Air India's commitment to environmental leadership in the aviation industry in India.
Air India has met the requirements of an IEnvA Airline for Stage 1 of the certification process, the releaser said adding the scope of the IEnvA covers the areas of Flight operations and corporate activities.
