The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today condemned mob attack on Swami Agnivesh in Jharkhand, terming it as unprovoked and murderous, and demanded arrest of culprits and early trial by a fast-track court.
"The National Secretariat of AITUC condemns unequivocally the murderous attacks on Swami Agnivesh by the activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Jharkhand's Pakur district," an AITUC statement said.
The union said that Agnivesh had gone to Pakur to attend a programme organised concerning the Paharia tribe at the Littipara stadium.
The AITUC demands arrest of culprits and early trial by fast-track court, it added.
Agnivesh has alleged that the mob belonged to BJP-affiliated youth groups. The 79-year-old activist has demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge of the Jharkhand High Court.
