A senior Akali Dal leader, who had filed a petition in Delhi High Court seeking government takeover of BCCI, has alleged that a death threat was issued against him and his family members.
Kuldip Singh Bhogal, the all-India organising secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), had filed a complaint at Sun Light police station in south-east Delhi claiming he had received a letter on June 18 threatening to eliminate his entire family.
He has named a duo, Mohd Khurra and Mukesh, in his complaint as they are mentioned in the letter, police said.
Sun Light police station SHO Sunil Mittal said, "We have received a complaint from Bhogal and we are investigating it. I can't say much about it as it is a sensitive case."
Bhogal, who is also the President of the Association for Social and Humanitarian Affairs (ASHA), has demanded a security cover from Delhi police in the wake of the alleged threats.
He has sent copies of the threat letter and the complaint to Hazrat Nizamuddin police station and to Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.
According to the FIR, Bhogal last month filed a Writ Petition in Delhi High Court seeking government takeover of BCCI.
Alleging various irregularities and illegalities in BCCI's working, Bhogal said that the underworld was indirectly taking over the sport body's control and operation.
He has named underworld bosses Dawood Ibrahim and Iqbal Kaskar in his petition, the next date of hearing in which is on August 14.
