Alprazolam pills worth Rs 1.43 lakh seized, three held

The narcotics wing of Madhya Pradesh police have arrested three men from different places in the state and seized over 21,000 Alprazolam tablets from them, a senior official said today.
"As part of the drive that has been going on since the last four days, three persons identified as Aamir Khan, a resident of Indore, Mohammad Farooq Gachi, owner of a medical store in Dewas and Gaurav Agrawal, a medicine trader based in Bhopal, were arrested by the police based on a tip-off," narcotics wing Additional Director General (ADG) Varun Kapur told reporters.
The accused are associated with one another and were involved in the sale of Alprazolam tablets to the drug addicts at a higher rate than the market price, he said.

Total 21,510 tablets worth Rs 1,43,400 were seized from their possession, the officer said.
"As per the rules, Alprazolam can be sold only by pharmacists on the prescription of doctors and they are mandated to keep records of the sale and purchase of this drug," Kapur said.
According to sources, drug addicts have been consuming this tablet as a cheaper option in place of brown sugar in Indore and the surrounding areas.
