: Alstom India, a subsidiary of French engineering major Alstom, on Monday rolled out the 100th metro train set manufactured locally from Sri City special economic zone near here.
Top officials of the company including Alstom India and South Asia, Managing Director, Alain Spohr formally flagged off the train set, marking the formal dispatch.
The 100th train set to Kochi Metro Rail Corporation marked the completion of KMRC order for 25 train sets by Alstom India.
"We have hit a century by delivering the 100th train-set. This milestone signifies many things, but most importantly, it is a vote of confidence of our customers in our capabilities to deliver world class, custom made solutions," Spohr said.
The achievement was made possible by Indian talent (of the company) that includes 4,200 team members working in various locations across the country, he said.
"We are confident to reach greater heights with our commitment to Make in India and aligning our business goals with the country's vision," he said.
The plant commenced operations in November 2013 and delivered the first metro-train set to the Chennai Metro Rail in February 2014.
The unit at Sri City about 110 km from here employs over 600 people and has a production capacity of 240 cars per year.
According to company officials, the facility is currently being scaled up to double the production capacity and also to introduce latest industrial technologies.
"Before end of this year, the facility will commence production for 248 metro cars (31 train sets of 8 cars each) for the Mumbai Metro, 3,212 metro cars (106 train sets of two cars each) for Montreal Metro and 10 more train sets for Chennai metro," the statement said.
Till date, Alstom's Sri City unit has made deliveries of more than 420 metro cars to its domestic and overseas customers.
