Congress MLA Amit Chavda today took charge as Gujarat Congress president at a function held here.
Chavda, who is also the party chief whip in the state Legislative Assembly, replaced Bharatsinh Solanki.
The function was held here in the presence of Congress workers and leaders, including newly appointed state party in-charge Rajiv Satav.
In his address, Chavda urged the party workers to act together to defeat the ruling BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as well as in the next Assembly polls in 2022.
"I want party workers to reach out to citizens and understand their problems. If we can do that the Congress will definitely win the upcoming Lok Sabha as well as Assembly polls of 2022," Chavda said while underlining the need to formulate an effective strategy to win elections.
In his address, Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Paresh Dhanani, said, "The party needs to promote lower ranking party workers. If we give importance to such workers and elevate them, the Congress can easily defeat the BJP in all the 26 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat," said Dhanani.
Satav said Congress president Rahul Gandhi believed in removing the wall between party leaders and the common man by promoting young leaders like Dhanani and Chavda.
"The party will promote hard working lower rank workers of block and district level. Party workers need to hold protests against the government at block and district levels every month," said Satav.
