The T T V Dhinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam Friday announced the party's candidate for the January 28 Tiruvarur bypoll.
In a statement, the party announced the candidature of S Kamaraj, who will take on the nominees of both the ruling AIADMK as well as that of the opposition DMK.
Kamaraj is AMMK's Tiruvarur district secretary.
Bypoll to the constituency was necessitated due to the death of former chief minister M Karunanidhi, the sitting MLA from the Assembly segment, on August 7 last year.
Dhinakaran, who had upset the ruling dispensation as well as DMK by winning the December 2017 RK Nagar bypoll as an Independent, had earlier exuded confidence that his AMMK will win in Tiruvarur too.
Post his sidelining in AIADMK by a section of the cabinet led by chief minister K Palaniswami in 2017, Dhinakaran floated the AMMK last year.
The Election Commission had on Monday announced the bypoll to Tiruvarur.
