A police team today recovered a huge cache of ammunition stashed in a number of villages in East Garo Hills district.

The police got information about the hidden ammunition from the five Garo National Liberation Army activists (GNLA), who were arrested recently, a police officer said.

"A massive search operation was launched in the former strongholds of the GNLA after the recovery of the earlier stash of weapons and ammunition a few days ago," the Superintendent of Police, Ringrang TG Momin, said.

The search continued over 3 days and was spread over Dorenkigre, Chachatgre, Bawegre and Nengmandalgre, he said.

"Many villagers, aware of the terrain, helped in the search. The well-coordinated search has led to the recovery of a huge amount of ammunition from the villages of Dorenkigre, Chachatgre and Nengmandalgre, the SP said.

A total number of 2,406 assorted ammunition, 10 circuits, two remote controls and 16 charger clips were also recovered.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the same district in the first week of this month, he said.
