The president of Aligarh Muslim University students' union has been expelled after the disciplinary committee of AMU found him guilty of indiscipline and violence on the campus.
AMUSU president Shahzad Alam has also been charged with serious misappropriation of students' union funds, an official spokesperson said, adding his suspension orders were issued yesterday by Vice Chancellor Zameer Uddin Shah.
Alam, a research scholar, has been debarred from seeking admission in any course for a period of five years and the university has been declared "out of bounds for him" during this period, he said.
Alam had allegedly provoked a group of students for pelting stones on VC's vehicle last month. Four staff members of university security were injured in the clashes.
He will be issued a migration certificate only after paying a sum of Rs. 35,940, which he owes to the university guest house for hosting his private guests.
The suspension order issued to Alam mentions that during a span of two months, he had spent a sum of Rs 77,500 on tea and snacks and Rs 74,130 on photostat expenses.
The order further mentions that against a sum of Rs 14.9 lakh utilised by the union during two months, there is no stated expenditure on any immovable asset except for a printer costing Rs. 6,000.
Alam, however, has described the charges against him as false and has termed the action as unjustified, claiming that he had submitted details of all expenses made by him.
