AMU scholar suspended for alleged misconduct

A PhD scholar was today suspended by the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for alleged misconduct and indiscipline.
Mohammad Zoraiz, a PhD scholar in the Department of Law, AMU has been accused of being involved in instigating violence on April 11 last when leaders of the AMU students union has organised a reception on honour of Rajya Sabha MP and General Secretary of the Janata Dal United KC Tyagi.
A two member inquiry committee had been instituted to probe the incident that took place at the Students' Union building, an official spokesman said here.
The members of the inquiry committee have been asked to submit their findings by April 20.
The members of the inquiry committee include Prof Najam Khaliq of the Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College and Prof Khalid Azam, Department of Business Administration.
On April 11 when, the Annual General Meeting was in progress a mob of about 20 persons gathered near the AMU Students Union where Tyagi was being accorded a reception.
The Leaders of the Students Union led by the President of the Union Abdullah Azzam earlier today met AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) and demanded strong action against the alleged culprits.
Leaders of the Student Union are reported to have cautioned the Vice Chancellor that any delay in taking strong action would only vitiate the atmosphere at the campus.
Security measures at the AMU campus have been tightened in the wake of todays suspension of the above students leader.
