Five-time World champion Viswanathan Anand played out a draw with Germany's Lampert Jonas but Harika Dronavalli suffered a defeat against German FIDE Master Michael Babar in the second round of the Isle of Man International Tournament here.
Playing with white pieces, Anand found himself on the back foot as his rival attacked with the queen. A truce was signed after 28 moves when Anand repeated the positions.
Anand will face another German Lubbe Nikolas, while Harika will take on Swedish Grand Master Nils Grandelius in the third round.
The World No. 10 Indian, playing with black pieces, started off with an attacking frame of mind but the German's clever moves put her on the back foot.
However, Harika implemented all the defensive strategies up her sleeves but could not contain Babar as he continued to put pressure on and made her succumb to it after a massive 46 moves.
"Things did not go too well for me from the initial stages of the game and eventually my defensive strategy was countered well by my opponent," conceded the lass from Guntur.
"I am focusing on the next game and will look to put up a better performance in the third round," Harika added.
The tournament has a formidable field of 160 players, including 30 Indians in fray.
