The villagers reached Dhoommanikpur sub station last night and had a verbal duel with JE Yugdeep Mohan who was testing the meters, after which the engineer was beaten up.
The company employees called the police who reached the site and pacified the villagers.
The JE has lodged an FIR at Badalpur police station naming two dozen persons, police said today.
Executive Engineer Sarvesh Khare said consumers can lodge a complaint and even report to senior officers but they cannot physically assault the employees and obstruct public duty. This will not be tolerated.
