Kapoor and Santoshi have previously worked together in 'Pukar' (2000) and 'Lajja' (2001). Their third project is based on the Indo-Pak Partition drama and the 53-year-old actor has been roped in to play the lead role.
"I am doing a film based on 1947 Partition. It is a very dramatic film. I am working on it. It is too early to talk about the actors that I have on my wish list for this film except Anil Kapoor. He is playing a powerful character," Santoshi told PTI.
The film is reportedly an adaptation of the play, 'Jis Lahore Nahi Dekhya Woh Jamiya Hi Nahin'.
"The film will have a universal message - promoting harmony in times of intolerance," said Santoshi without disclosing further details.
Meanwhile, Santoshi is looking forward to the release of his directional venture, Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero', which will hit the theatres on September 20.
