'Anne of Green Gables' gets blonde makeover

The innocent 10-year-old of Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel 'Anne of Green Gables' has undergone a racy makeover. The latest cover of the 1908 classic shows an older, blue-eyed blonde much to the horror of devoted fans of the famous redhead. The book is in the public domain, making publishers free to design the cover. The book, available on Amazon, was released in November by a self-publisher and features a three-in-one set: Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of The Island. However, a blonde and older Anne has certainly not gone down well with fans, who have ridiculed the publishers for changing the colour of Anne's hair. "Tell me this blond Anne of Green Gables thing is an April Fool's joke sent out too early. Please," one Rachel Held Evans tweeted. At Amazon, user, Amy1228 commented, "This book is supposed to be Anne of Green Gables NOT Anne Does Green Gables!" One customer wrote, "The "Updated" cover of this product is terrible. First of all, Anne has red hair. RED HAIR. It's a key part of her character and is a strong influence on her words and actions. "Secondly, Anne is 10 at the start of the series. What is up with the bedroom eyes? Did they just do a Google image search for sexy farmgirl? Does anyone publishing this book have any idea of what the stories are actually about?"
