Another arrest for Amway India CEO in Andhra Pradesh

The Warangal district police in Andhra Pradesh today arrested Amway India CEO William Scott Pinckney in connection with a criminal case filed against the direct-selling company.
Pinckney had been earlier arrested by Kurnool and Khammam police in the state in similar cases. The company is facing cases under Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act at many places in Andhra Pradesh.
Based on a complaint lodged by advocate Sadiq Ali, the Jangaon police in Warangal district had obtained a production warrant from the local court. They took him into custody from the Central Prison in Warangal today, inspector Narasimha Rao said.

"He (Pinckney) was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Jangaon.... The court sent him in judicial custody," the inspector added.
Meanwhile, the Kurnool district police who had had got his five day remand for custodial interrogation, were in the process of taking his custody from the Warangal prison, another police official said.
Responding to a complaint alleging financial irregularities in Amway's operations, Pinckney was arrested in Gurgaon on Monday by the Kurnool Police.

A court in Kurnool rejected Pinckney's bail petition. But before Kurnool police could take his custody from Kadapa prison, the Khammam police arrested him.
Amway today said in a statement that nothing in the latest allegations should prevent the courts from granting bail to Pinckney, who had been living in India for 16 years, and cooperating with all the investigation authorities.

Amway will continue to provide information to all "relevant agencies" for the purpose of any inquiry, it added.
