BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai said "anti-national" sloganeering in JNU was an "insult" to Jawaharlal Nehru.
Referring to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's visit to JNU in support of the students, he said the act was "astonishing" as Nehru's grandson sided with those who indulged in "anti-national" sloganeering.
"The anti-national sloganeering in JNU was unbelievable and an insult to Jawaharlal Nehru after whose name the university was established," he said.
Bajpai also said the action and charge against JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar was not too harsh as the video tapes available has established his "indulgence."
Bajpai also attacked BSP Chief Mayawati for her alleged support to "anti-national" elements and sought apology from all those leaders who supported those indulged in sloganeering.
Asked about alleged negligence of UP in rail budget, Bajpai said the UP government must explain if the budget allocation under NDA government was not much more than during UPA rule.
"Metro train in UP has 50 per cent funding by the central government," he said.
"Even in state finance commission grant, allocation for UP has been raised to 42 per cent from 32 per cent," he added.
The BJP leader was at the district's BJP office, where he will review preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Bareilly on February 27.
