The incident took place at Duvva village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
V Satyanarayana (55) and his wife Manikumari (50) died on the spot when the crackers stored in their thatched house suddenly exploded, the police said.
The cause of the mishap, in which the house caught fire, was not immediately known but it's suspected that crackers were probably being illegaly manufactured there, they said.
Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa spoke to West Godavari district Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan and directed him to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
