Appejay Kolkata Literary Festival starts from January 15

The eighth edition of Appejay Kolkata Literary Festival commencing from January 15 would be attended among others by Shashi Tharoor, editor-novelist Raj Kamal Jha, eminent authors Amit Chaudhuri, Shobha De, Nabaneeta Dev Sen, scholar, literary theorist Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak and others.
The four-day festival ending January 18, focussed on the historical spirit of inclusiveness in creativity and culture of the city, would be held at the St Paul's Cathedral.
The conversations are scheduled to be held at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club, the campus of iLead and Presidency, Daga Nikunj and Harrington Street Arts Centre, Directors of the festival Maina Bhagat and Anjum Katyal today said.
In the festival, conversations would be held on Post-Truth, Inclusiveness, India's North East, Protection of Child Rights and Voices of Women.
The inaugural session of the conversations "Black and White" with Shashi Tharoor discussing legacy of the Raj.
The first edition of a two-day Oxford Junior Literary Festival (OJLF) (January 15-16) for young readers will involve children from Future Hope NGO and from several shelters outside the city will be held in the festival.
This year's festival will also introduce Tiny Stories on the theme of a "Better World for Every Child" for global campaign by UNICEF@70 with Tharoor.
The festival would also introduce for the first time Plug In as a tribute to Bob Dylan.
The festival would also commemorate late writer and activist Mahasweta Devi with a documentary film screening "Talking Writing: four conversations with Mahasweta Devi" directed by Pushan Kripalani followed by a discussion with Nabaneeta Dev Sen and academic Spivak and publisher Naveen Kishore.
The festival would also announce the shortlist of the Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize.
The festival would culminate at St John's Church with a candlelight vigil in solidarity with the ideal of an inclusive society.
Nayantara Sahgal is scheduled for the closing address among others.
