A parliamentary panel has pulled up the government for not appointing a full-time chairman of Spices Board for nearly two years.

Department-related parliamentary standing committee on commerce has sought reasons for the delay in the appointment.

It has suggested the Department of Commerce to appoint a full-time chairman of the board at the earliest.

"The committee deplores the fact that Spices Board has been functioning without a full-time chairman for nearly two years," the panel said in a report today.

It also recommended the department to take immediate action on the board's proposal to fix minimum import price for coriander to protect domestic producers from cheap imports.

Besides, it suggested to expedite the launch of national policy on spices after proper consultations with all the stake holders.
