The amount has surpassed the earlier record of Rs 15. 40 crore collected during 2012-13, department's general Manager Abu Tayeng said in a statement here today.
APST, one of the leading departments in the state in generating revenue, has been consistently contributing to the state exchequer since its inception.
Appreciating the efforts of field officers contribution in revenue collection, Tayeng credited it to the hard work and dedication of the officers and the field staffs.
"Some of the stations in the state have even exceeded the revenue target. If funds were released by the state government on quarterly basis, the revenue generation would receive a fillip," he pointed out.
The postal department also owes Rs 35 lakh as carriage charges to the department.
The revenue could have been increased to more than 17 crore if the outstanding dues were paid timely, the sources said.
Currently the department is operating 196 vehicles across the state.
However, a few of them are off the road for maintenance, the GM said.
Last year the department had introduced Sumo services from Roing to Anini and planning to introduce more services between Roing and Itanagar, Aalo-Mechuka and Tawang-Tezpur, the sources added.
