Two suspected suppliers of illegal arms and ammunition in Delhi were arrested after a brief shootout in east Delhi's Jagatpuri area, the police said today.
Following incidents of armed robberies, a police team was constituted to identify the persons who were supplying weapons to the robbers, the police said.
On the intervening night of October 1 and 2, the police laid a trap near a school in the area.
Two men, who were riding a motorcycle, were seen coming from Kadkadi Mod traffic signal towards Nala Road. They were surrounded by the police but they tried to flee by taking a u-turn.
Their motorcycle skid and they fell. However, one of them opened fire. The bullet narrowly missed hitting a sub- inspector, the police said.
The two accused, Kadeem and Chaman, were overpowered and arrested. The police seized 10 sophisticated pistols, including a 9 mm, from them.
During interrogation, they revealed that they used to supply illegal pistols and live cartridges in NCR and Uttar Pradesh and have delivered more than 500 Pistols to as many 20 criminals, said Omvir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).
They have also supplied weapons to members of Pasonda Gang and Namastey Gang of Mustafabad, Delhi.
