Judge Advocate General of Army (JAG) has been successful in dealing with the emerging challenges in front of the department in the form of cyber law, terrorism and human rights, Chief of Army's Northern Command Lt Gen Hooda said at the 31st Corps Day of JAG.
The official also reemphasized on upholding the department's motto of 'Nyaya Eva Dharm' i.E. 'Justice alone in the Supreme Duty' at any cost and under all circumstances.
JAG, a forum which consists of legally qualified army officers, today celebrated its 31st Corps Day with traditional gaiety and fervor at Udhampur based-headquarters of Northern Army.
The GOC-in-C Northern Command appreciated the ardent and exemplary service of JAG and extended good wishes to the officers, staff and their families.
The celebration commenced with laying of wreath by Brig Praveen Kumar Deputy Judge Advocate General, HQ Northern Command at the War Memorial in reverence of those who laid down their lives for the country.
JAG department conference was also organized at the occasion and inaugurated by Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, Chief of Staff (COS) Northern Command who exhorted the officers to continue rendering timely advice to the commanders at grass root level.
After the Great Revolution of 1688, suitable enactments which were needed to be made by the British Parliament from time to time for proper governance of Standing Army and Courts Martial that formerly derived authority exclusively from the Crown, received Statutory recognition for the first time in the 'Articles of War -1765.
Judge Advocate General, one of the oldest organs of the Indian Army was introduced in the country in 1841. The body is responsible for the administration of military justice in all its varied aspects and deals with Court Martial matters.
The department celebrates its Corps Day on 21st Dec as the bill for the present Army Act was introduced in the Parliament on this day in 1949. The celebrations extend for two days.
