The main event, which would mark the 16th anniversary of the victory, is scheduled to be held at Kargil War Memorial in Drass on July 25 and 26.
In Delhi, the Army is holding an exhibition at the Select Citywalk mall in Saket which will be inaugurated by Vishal Batra, the twin brother of martyred Captain Vikram Batra.
Army vehicle convoy (discarded army vehicles painted in the theme) under the flag, some war equipment, rare Kargil war pictures and stall of Army War Widows will be on display. The Army band will also do a musical representation of a soldier's life.
The operation had cost the Indian Army hundreds of young lives, in whose memory the commemorative function is held every year.
As a run up to the event, a large number of competitions and events have been planned for the local population of the Drass area, who supported the operations whole heartedly, risking their lives. Marathon race, painting, archery, tent pegging competitions and cultural shows have been planned.
The celebrations at Kargil War Memorial will be on July 25 and would be followed by wreath laying ceremony the next day. The memorial is located at the base of Tololing, the scene of one of the fieriest battles of the operation.
"The event is a purposeful attempt by the Army every year to remember its martyrs and solemnly honour their memories and to remind the nation of the constant sacrifices men and women in uniform make for the citizens of India," an Army official said.
