Playing a pivotal role in post-flood rescue and relief operations in Kashmir, soldiers of Army's Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) worked tirelessly round-the-clock to help the marooned residents.
"Soldiers of EME worked tirelessly round-the-clock, removing the fallen trees and electric poles from the highways ..., so that the momentum of relief operations could be speeded up," Jammu-based Defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said today.
The corps of Army's EME, the sole agency for repair and maintenance of entire range of Army equipment, showed a brilliant re-build capability marching shoulder to shoulder with those engaged in life saving missions, he said.
"EME teams got launched in Bemina, Rajbagh and Tengpura area in Srinagar along with rescue columns for repairing of boats, out-board motors and heavy duty water pumps. The Soldier Craftsmen of EME were also associated with the repair and relief operations of Batwara, Shivpora and Indranagar area," the spokesman said.
EME had to face various challenges like, recovery of submerged vehicles and equipment, repairs of generators, communication equipment, carrying out light to heavy recovery or crane duties in standing water at midnight.
The agency also took up the challenge to rebuild and service a vast range of equipment, much beyond its mandate, besides assisting the civil administration.
"They undertook repairs of boats of NDRF, Dewatering pumps fielded by ONGC and Tube Well pumps of MES to ensure that normalcy is restored in the shortest possible time," Mehta said.
EME also extended its engineering skills and innovation to assist the civil electrical engineers in repairing the power transformers and heavy duty 200KVA generators to ensure smooth functioning of hospital services, he said.
