ASI arrested for taking Rs 1 lakh bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
ASI Sukhwinder Singh posted at the Mahna police station in Moga district was arrested on the basis of a complaint by Paviter Singh of Dandrala Kharoud village in Patiala, an official spokesman said.
The complainant had alleged that the ASI was demanding Rs 1,15,000 for releasing his tractor, which was impounded in a case at the police station, he said.
After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the policeman was arrested on the spot, the spokesman said.
He said that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused and the matters was being probed.
