Assam got enough during UPA rule: Himanta Biswa Sarma

A day after BJP top brass attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of using Assam for his "political advantages", state Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today countered that the state received "enough" during UPA regime.
"Assam got enough during last 10 years. Without Manmohan Singh, Assam would have not got so much," Sarma said in a press conference.
He said that it is the local leaders' failure if the state has not witnessed any progress.
"It is unfair to compare Amethi or Raebareli with entire Assam. We get 10 per cent of the total allocation to the states," Sarma said.

Taking a dig at the BJP, he said, "If we talk about the NDA, they will feel bad. Just one example, during the National Highway upgradation programme in the NDA tenure, only 17 km were sanctioned in Assam."
"What Vajpayee did not give to Assam, Manmohan Singh gave," he added.

Yesterday, the opposition BJP came down heavily on UPA government and charged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of neglecting and using Assam, which he has been representing since 1991, for his "political advantage".
"Manmohan Singh went to the Rajya Sabha from Assam in 1991. He has been the Prime Minister for the last nine and half years. Can he tell the people what has he done for this state?," BJP's Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad had said.

"I am sorry to say Manmohan Singh used Assam for his political advantages... Manmohan Singh, you have prospered but you left behind Assam," he had claimed.
