Assam Governor and Chief Minister condoled the demise of filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, saying she had brought "sidelined issues" into mainstream Bollywood movies.
In an official release, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi mourned the death of writer-director Kalpana Lajmi, who passed away Sunday at the age of 64.
"A filmmaker par excellence, her death is an irreparable loss to the world of cinema," Mukhi said.
Lajmi, who was famous for bringing sidelined issues into mainstream Bollywood movies, was often credited for her ventures in women-oriented movies, he added.
Her cinematic ventures like Ek Pal, Rudaali and Darmiyaan gave us a glimpse of her cinematic acumen, the governor said.
"Her works will definitely be a source of inspiration for the coming generation," he added.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbandna Sonowal too expressed his condolence on the demise of the eminent filmmaker.
In a condolence message, Sonowal said, "During her lifetime, the filmmaker produced several epoch-making women oriented films and enriched the Bollywood film industry.
A strong and energetic voice, her untimely death will definitely create a void in the film industry which will be difficult to be filled.
"Kalpana Lajmi has had inseparable connection with the cultural life of the state (Assam).
She along with Dr Bhupen Hazarika produced several timeless creations, which enriched the celluloid world of the country," Sonowal said.
Joint Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhavan in Mumbai Debashish Sarma offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of Kalpana Lajmi on behalf of the Assam chief minister.
