The sales tax department officials here today protested against the attack on the Assistant Commissioner by tying black bands at work.
The irate colleagues of Assistant Commissioner R S Mishra who was shot by two bike-borne assailants in Kalyanpur area on Sunday for preventing his friend from being robbed, demanded prompt action from the police in arresting the culprits.
"We have decided to work by tying black bands as a protest against the attack on our colleague. We are giving police a span of 10 days to nab the accused as well as provide adequate security to the department officials. If the police fails, the protest will be intensified," Harinath Singh, President, Central Sales Tax Employees Association said.
The police have made no arrests in the incident.
"No one has been arrested in the case. Around 24 people were detained in this connection, but all of them were released after interrogation," SP(Rural) A K Mishra told PTI today.
Expressing hope that the accused would be arrested soon, the official said that the police have detained more people and further investigation is on in the matter.
"Five police teams are constantly interrogating miscreants, old offenders and informants. Preliminary investigations have revealed that there may be other aspects behind the crime apart from burglary," Mishra said.
"The mobile phones of the suspected have been put under surveillance and the call records on the day of crime are being looked at," he said.
The condition of the victim is stable, police said.
The police had released the sketch of one of the miscreants accused in the attack yesterday.
