Chest custodian Naveen (31), guard Brajesh and one other had started from Karol Bagh in a cash van around noon. They reached Rohini Sector 24 after replenishing cash in several ATMs, said DCP(Rohini) Rishi Pal.
As they stopped to fill cash in an ATM in pocket 12 of Rohini's sector 24 around 2 PM, two bike-borne men reached there and tried to snatch the cash bag after throwing chili powder on the staffers, the police said.
The guard showing courage, fired two rounds from his firearm but the robbers managed to escape, the police said.
The injured custodian was rushed to a hospital, the DCP said.
The guard told the police that despite there being a good number of people present on the spot, nobody came forward to challenge the robbers, giving them an opportunity to escape.
The police said a case has been registered and enquiries with locals have been made.
Six special teams have been constituted for investigation, Pal said.
Sources said the police have found a CCTV in Karol Bagh that shows that the cash van was being followed by two people on a motorcycle.
The police have also prepared CCTV grabs to identify the robbers. The registration number of motorcycle was also checked by the police but was found to be fake, sources said.
The police are also taking the help of forensics experts to get more clues about the robbers.
