Debbarma, who was staying in Dhaka, was arrested during a raid by the police near the border following a tip-off, sources said.

The ATTF was formed in 1993 and Debbarma had set up bases in Sylhet and Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) of Bangladesh and carried out many subversive activities from that country.

The ATTF was responsible for many mass killings, kidnaps and extortion of money. About two lakh people were displaced from their homes in the interior areas due to the insurgent attacks.

Earlier, intelligence sources here said that, "army intelligence personnel of Bangladesh raided the hideout of Ranjit Debbarma in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on December 30 and arrested him, his wife, 14-year-old daughter and another woman of the outfit, Debika Debbarma."

As there is no extradition treaty with Bangladesh, it is presumed that Bangladesh Border Guards had pushed back Debbarma and Tripura police arrested him from border areas.
