Lavigne originally co-wrote and recorded 'Breakaway' for her own debut album Let Go in 2002, but decided it was unsuitable for the collection.
The Canadian star handed the song to Clarkson to record for the 'Princess Diaries 2' soundtrack, which saw it peak at number six on the US Hot 100.
Meanwhile, Lavigne recently announced plans to tour the US with Backstreet Boys this summer in support of her recent self-titled album.
