The miscreants stopped the car of Anuj Singh, a contractor under Uttar Pradesh government's Awas Vikas Parishad, and decamped with cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh and a gold chain in Aliganj town yesterday, police said.
The accused also assaulted Singh leaving him severely injured, they said.
The victim has been admitted to a hospital.
An FIR has been registered against unknown persons, but no arrest has been made so far in the case, police added.
