Backhoe loader mows down teenaged girl

A girl was killed on way to school and her father was injured when a backhoe loader hit their bicycle on a busy road at Beliaghata here today, prompting the locals to set the vehicle on fire.
While 13-year-old Sweta Das died on the spot, her father Rabindra Das was injured when the speeding vehicle hit the bicycle from behind, police said.
"While the girl was declared brought dead at the NRS Medical College and Hospital, her father is in a better condition now," a senior officer of Beliaghata police station said.
The enraged people caught hold of the driver, who tried to escape. He has been arrested, the police officer said.

Traffic was temporarily stopped on the busy CIT Road at Beliaghata in the eastern part of the city as the locals put up a blockade and set the backhoe loader on fire, he said.
The victim was a resident of Radha Madhab Dutta Lane in Beliaghata.
