To cope with shortage of teachers and to maintain education standards in government schools across the state, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has decided to establish a Teachers' Recruitment Board.
The Chief Minister took the decision during a meeting with senior officials of the School Education department here, a government spokesman said.
The board would be headed by Principal Secretary, School Education and Vice Chancellors of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Punjabi University, Patiala, Director General School Education and chairperson of Punjab School Education Board would be its members.
Underscoring the need for imparting quality education to students, Badal said selection of professional teachers with impeccable commitment and dedication was necessary and added, the only criteria for recruitment of teachers would be strictly based on the merit of candidates.
The Board must complete the entire recruitment process of Model, Adarsh and Rashtiya Madhamik Sikhya Ahbyaan schools by September this year, the Chief Minister said.
Stressing on setting up new model schools for students of rural areas securing 80 per cent or more marks from government schools, the Chief Minister said that these schools would be established at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Mohali.
Model Schools would be established over an area of ten acres and Rs 10 crore would be spent to equip them with ultra-modern facilities.
