Amid nationwide outrage over alleged gang-rape and murder of two teenaged cousins in Badaun, the Uttar Pradesh government today suspended SP Badaun Atul Saxena.
"SP Badaun has been suspended and decision has been taken to take action against the then District Magistrate," Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan told reporters here.
The new DM has taken charge only two days back, he said.
Several facts had emerged regarding Badaun incident and it would have been better if the administration had acted promptly, Ranjan said.
Bodies of two sisters, both cousins aged 14 and 15, were found hanging from a tree in Katra Sadatganj village in Badaun last month.
The UP government had recommended a CBI probe into the gang-rape and murder case.
