Bahuguna launches food security programme in U'khand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today launched the Food Security scheme in the disaster-hit hill state on the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, describing it as a "historic" move which will benefit 62 per cent of the country's population.
"It is a historic move by the UPA government at the Centre which will benefit 62 per cent of the country's population," Bahuguna said while launching the programme.
Considering the massive losses suffered by people of Uttarakhand, in the wake of the June calamity, the Food Security Act assumes even greater significance, he said.
Though for now BPL and Antoydaya card holders only will get the benefits of the scheme, its ambit will be expanded later to include APL families too, the chief minister said.

A Food Security Commission will also be constituted for the effective implementation of the Act, Bahuguna announced.
